The best supplements for Vegans
B12, Vitamin D, Omega 3 and more
In our consultations together we will work with your blood test results and an assessment of your diet along with any symptoms to see which supplements will give you optimal health. I have included this resource to make shopping for great supplements (that are also Vegan) to compliment your food intake.
You may be recommended:
Vitamin D supplement - Vegan D3
Usually, Vitamin D 3 is not vegan and Vitamin D2 is.
Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol) is the form of Vitamin D produced by the body after sun exposure. Common vegetarian Vitamin D supplements are Vitamin D2 (Ergocalciferol), which is a derivative of ergosterol and is not produced by land plants or vertebrates. The healthy debate continues regarding whether D2 offers equivalent amounts of the vitamin.
Ingredients: Sorbitol, maltodextrin, Vitashine plant source vitamin D3 (starch, sucrose, silicon dioxide, antioxidants (D-Alpha tocopherol, ascorbyl palmitate), cholecalciferol), anti-caking agents (stearic acid, magnesium stearate).
Vegan. Gluten-free, dairy-free, wheat-free.
This can be purchased at The Cruelty Free Shop. Visit in person and plan to get any items needing refrigeration into a cool pack and then in to your fridge.

Vitamin B12 Supplements
There are different types of vitamin B12 - there is more about this important vitamin for vegans on this page. Check that the supplement you are purchasing is suited to Vegans.
This is the most important supplement - not only for vegans but also for people over 50 years of age.
Studies show it is best to take this supplement often - daily, for example, is preferable to weekly. Fortified foods and many multivitamins and iron supplements will contain vitamin B12.
It is imperative that you intake and absorb optimal levels of vitamin B12. The best way to make sure you are is with the appropriate tests from your medical doctor. Testing for B12 is not the most accurate test - particularly for vegans who use algae-based foods and supplements as your levels may appear higher than they are. The most accurate test for vitamin B12 is homocsyteine levels.

Bioceuticals Iron Sustain
This is a great iron supplement that is suitable for Vegans. The ingredient listings are below. Here are the notes from the company about this product.
"Easily absorbed, convenient one-a-day tablet which is gentle on the stomach.
Iron Sustain provides highly bioavailable iron in the form of ferrous bisglycinate. Activated B vitamins and vitamin C support the formulation. Iron may be of assistance to people with an increased demand for iron or whose dietary intake of iron is inadequate. Iron is necessary for the formation of haemoglobin in the blood, which transports oxygen to the tissues."
I like this because i have used it and had great results that are verifiable in blood tests. It also contains forms of iron that are easier for many people to absorb, along with two forms of vitamin B12.
